Why a custom mouthguard?
“Boil and bite” guards are better than nothing, but they only fit roughly: they move, make breathing harder and many athletes end up taking them out. A custom guard is made on an exact replica of your teeth, with several layers of thermoformed material that spread and absorb the force of an impact better.
It fits without pressing, does not fall out mid-play and is thin enough to talk and breathe normally, so you will actually wear it.
Which sports
For any sport with a risk of knocks or falls, with different levels of protection depending on intensity:
Team and ball sports: basketball, football, water polo, volleyball.
Contact: rugby, handball, hockey (roller, field or ice), lacrosse, American football.
Combat: boxing, kickboxing, Muay Thai, MMA, judo, taekwondo, krav maga.
Wheels: BMX, mountain biking, motocross, skateboarding and skating.
How we do it
1. At your first visit we check your mouth and take a mould or digital scan of your teeth. It takes less than 20 minutes.
2. You choose the model for your sport and the colour: single, combined or your club's colours.
3. A specialist lab makes it to measure using materials made in the European Union.
4. In about 7–10 days you collect it at the clinic; we check the fit and explain how to look after it.
Children, braces and teams
Children's and teenagers' mouths change fast, so we recommend checking and renewing the guard every season. If you wear braces or have a missing tooth, it can still be made: the design fits your mouth as it is now, and we adjust it if it changes during orthodontic treatment.
Do you run a club, sports school or gym? We organise sessions for the whole team, at the clinic or at your facilities, with group prices and mouthguards in the club's colours. Get in touch and we will set it up.
Frequently asked questions
How long does a custom mouthguard last?
With normal use, from one to several seasons. Under-15s should renew it every year because the mouth grows and changes.
Can I talk and breathe with it in?
Yes. Because it is custom-made it is thinner and more stable than a standard guard, so you can talk to your team and breathe normally.
Does it work with braces?
Yes. It is designed around your braces to protect your lips and cheeks too. If your teeth move a lot during treatment, we check it.
Does it prevent concussion?
There are no reliable studies showing that a mouthguard prevents concussion. What it does do is greatly reduce the risk of broken or lost teeth and of cuts to the lips, tongue and cheeks.
How do I clean and store it?
Rinse it in cold water after each use, brush it gently without abrasive toothpaste and store it dry in its ventilated case. Avoid hot water and leaving it in the sun or in the car, as it can warp.
