Dental hygiene and professional cleaning in Barcelona

A professional clean every 6 to 12 months is the simplest way to prevent decay, bleeding gums and more complex treatment later on. At La Fábrica de tu Sonrisa we take our time, with hygienists who have decades of experience and your music playing in the background.

What a hygiene appointment includes

At each visit we check your teeth and gums, remove the tartar and plaque your toothbrush can't reach using ultrasonic instruments, and polish the surfaces so plaque takes longer to build up again. If it's been a while since your last check-up, we can complete the diagnosis with a digital panoramic X-ray, taken here at the clinic.

If your gums bleed or there are periodontal pockets, we may suggest deep cleaning (root planing) by quadrant, under local anaesthetic so it's comfortable.

How we do it at La Fábrica

We start by asking how you feel in the chair. If you have sensitive teeth, we adjust the pressure and water temperature; if the noise makes you nervous, we offer headphones or a screen with your favourite series. Afterwards we show you, in your own mouth, where plaque builds up most and which brush or floss suits you best.

Who it's for

Everyone: adults, teenagers with braces, pregnant women (gums are more sensitive at this stage) and people with implants, who need specific maintenance. We'll remind you when your next check-up is due.

Why it matters

Plaque that hardens turns into tartar, and tartar irritates the gums: first they bleed when you brush (gingivitis) and, if left untreated, this can progress to periodontitis, which destroys the support around the teeth. Timely professional hygiene stops that process, freshens your breath and gives your daily brushing a fresh start. It's also the best moment to spot small cavities before they hurt.

Frequently asked questions

How often should I have my teeth cleaned?

Generally every 6 to 12 months. If you build up tartar quickly, have delicate gums or implants, we'll recommend a personalised interval.

Does cleaning damage the enamel?

No. Ultrasonic scaling and professional polishing remove tartar and surface stains without wearing down the enamel.

Does it hurt?

Most people only feel some vibration and a little sensitivity. If your gums are inflamed, we can use topical or local anaesthetic.

How long does the appointment take?

Between 30 and 45 minutes, including the check-up. You'll get a clear quote before we start.

Can I have a clean if I wear braces or have implants?

Yes, and it's especially recommended. We adapt our instruments and show you how to clean properly around the braces or implant.
